Oh man, you guys. It’s down to the wire. I have exactly one week to wrap up our master bedroom makeover for the One Room Challenge, and there is still plenty to finish up! I think I can do it though. While I still have a couple of major projects to wrap up this weekend, the rest of the work is just putting all of the details together and accessorizing. If you missed my “before” photos and plans for the room, you can check those out here. (See the bottom of this post for links to each week of the One Room Challenge.)
Here’s where I am currently:
I’ve painted the giant frames I showed you here. I decided to paint them a pretty gray color and I’ve added some black and white photos I took of my boys in a tunnel in our favorite park in Nashville. Here’s one of them—ignore the fact that this was taken in my garage. I have two of them, and the other one is a sweet shot of the older two boys in the tunnel.
This tunnel is special to us because we always stop at this park when we stay over in Nashville on our way up to Indiana to visit my family. It’s become a tradition to shoot photos in this tunnel, and this was the first time Jonah was big enough to join the big boys for a photo. These were taken on our spring break trip recently, and the time before this we got a shot of me sitting in the tunnel while pregnant with Jonah. We have a few from when the two older boys were smaller too. If you check out my #ErinSpainTravels hashtag on Instagram, you will see a few of them.
I had planned on building a nightstand for one side of the bed (the desk will stay on the other side), but in order to save time I decided I’m going to do an IKEA hack instead. We schlepped our crew to IKEA over the weekend and picked up a Tarva chest which I am going to make over to the point that it will no longer be recognizable as a Tarva. Or at least that’s the plan.
I purchased these turned bun feet at The Home Depot and I hope to incorporate them into the makeover, along with the beautiful drawer pulls I showed you here.
I ordered bamboo roman shades for the windows, and the curtains will also stay. I really wanted some like the ones we have in Jonah’s room, but since those are out of stock I went with the same type we have downstairs in our dining room and my mom cave. I ordered these Java Vintage Bamboo shades from Overstock.
I did swap out the knobs on the desk with these from Hobby Lobby. They coordinate with the larger ones that will go on the nightstand on the other side of the bed.
I’m told that the custom light fixture is shipping any second so I am on the edge of my seat waiting for that, and it will most likely be the last element installed in the room. I am ecstatic about it though!
Here’s the updated checklist:
PaintHem curtains and add trimSwap out mirror with the one in Jonah’s nursery- Swap out glider with something else
- Finish nightstand
- Hang artwork
- Accessorize
Figure out lighting- Install lighting
Figure out what to do with blank walls on either side of bathroom doorRepair barrel chairs at foot of the bed and decide whether to keep or replace with bench- Swap out old almond color outlets & covers with white ones
Order bamboo roman shades for the windows- Hang bamboo roman shades
Paint giant frames and add photos to them
We’re in the home stretch! We can do this! Be sure to stop by Calling it Home and check out all of the other participants’ progress as well. Stop by next Wednesday for the big reveal! I can’t wait.
