Family Game Night

I had no idea that World Market sells board games! I'm definitely planning a fun family game night SOON!

I love the weekend. While I often do a lot of my work on weekends, it’s also a time where we can finally relax after the chaos of the week. No rushing to the bus stop, searching for missing shoes, forcing socks onto a wiggly toddler feet in time to hurry out the door. We can just be. The weekend is also the perfect opportunity to bond as a family and make memories with our sweet kiddos. For the past couple of months, our Friday nights revolved around Harry Potter. My 8 year-old, Aiden, became completely obsessed, and he devoured the entire series in a matter of weeks. Each time he finished a book, we would have a movie night on Fridays as a reward and we would watch the corresponding film. Since we finished the entire series very quickly, we were left with a pretty big void in our Friday nights, and while we still do occasional movie nights, we agreed as a family that we would love to incorporate family game nights on Fridays too. It sort of became a New Year’s goal or resolution for all of us, since our boys are getting old enough to really enjoy and understand family games and it’s a great way for all of us to spend time together and bond. I had no idea that World Market offers so many games, but I recently snagged a few and set up a really fun game night.

My kids are 8, 6, and 2 years old, and I found that the game selection really accommodates a wide range of ages. (Of course, Jonah, our 2 year-old, likes to crash whatever game we happen to be playing at any given time, so part of the challenge is keeping him from destroying our setup! We decided to have this game night while he was sleeping.)

I picked up the following fun retro games:

I also snagged a super comfy throw blanket, a popcorn bowl, and individual popcorn boxes. My boys were so excited about these! (You definitely can’t have game night without snacks, right?)

I loved playing the Retro Sorry game since it brought back childhood memories for me.

The Ramps and Rails board game was a hit with the boys since it was really easy to understand. It’s definitely a great option for younger kids since it isn’t complex at all.

The novelty puzzle game was actually a big hit with everyone, even my husband! They all really enjoyed trying to solve them.

I definitely think game night will become a regular thing around here. We all had so much fun! (We just need to teach our little Jake about being a good sport. He’s not a fan of losing!) Ultimately though I would call it a success.
