Holiday Decorating Tips & Air Wick Giveaway!

Disclosure: This post is sponsored by Air Wick. All opinions are my own.

‘Tis the season for holiday decorating, and I thought I would share a few of my favorite holiday decorating tips, including how I incorporate scents into my decorating. (Stay tuned for a giveaway at the end of this post!) I’ve always been amazed by the impact that certain scents can have on your whole perception of a home. But we’ll get to that in a minute… First, let’s talk about decorating.

Holiday decorating tips

Normally, I don’t even start decorating for the holidays until December 1st. This year, I started earlier than I ever have. I’m nowhere near finished (some of these photos are from last year’s holiday home tour), but I was pleasantly surprised by the fact that starting early this year (on decorating and shopping) has made for a less stressful holiday season so far! And I’m happy that our family can enjoy all of the decor a little bit longer. So my first tip is to decorate a little bit early and enjoy all of your hard work a little longer!

I love incorporating natural greenery and poinsettias into my decor. You can find live garland at tree farms and sometimes even grocery stores, and it can often be surprisingly affordable. Some places even give trimmings away for free. You can use floral wire to attach the garland to banisters, and battery-powered LED twinkle lights work great for when there aren’t any outlets nearby.

Creating a few DIY holiday projects is a great way to save money and add a personal touch. Last year I made snowflake string art, and this year I plan on making a few other fun little decorations. I love combining DIY decor with store-bought decor. It’s budget-friendly and creates a nice balance between unique, one of a kind decorations, and pretty decor that catches my eye when shopping.

Holiday decorating tips

As for incorporating holiday scents into our home, nothing beats the smell of fresh pine. It just makes it feel more like Christmas to me. The thing is, garland and wreaths can only go so far in terms of bringing that holiday scent into the house, and since we have artificial trees as opposed to a real Christmas tree, I use candles to add to the holiday atmosphere.

I recently tried Air Wick scented candles and wax melts. You guys, the Air Wick Apple Crumble scented candle smells delicious. I might even be able to trick guests into thinking I’ve been baking! The Emerald Woodland scent is more of a traditional holiday pine type of scent which I love.

I also recently tried wax melts for the first time. The scent quickly filled our entire downstairs and it smelled so good! I was impressed by how potent it was, but not in an overwhelming way. It really did smell like I had been baking.

I think a holiday scent just adds to the overall atmosphere, so I try to keep that in mind when decorating or hosting guests for the holidays. And of course, I keep all candles and wax melts out of reach of children! I have a soon to be toddler who loves to grab anything and everything, so I always have to be careful.

I would love to hear your holiday decorating tips too! But first, I have a fun giveaway for you.
