Family Heirloom Vintage Box {Thrifty Style Series}

These built-in bookshelves are backed with "Woods" wallpaper from Anthropologie, and contain a mix of old and new decor, including an antique wooden box which is a family heirloom.

Every month, some blogger friends and I team up to bring you the “Thrifty Style Series,” where we style a thrifted/free/inexpensive/hand-me down (you get the drift) item in our homes with the hopes that you will be inspired to see second-hand finds in a whole new light. This month, I’m sharing an oldie but a goodie. It’s something I’ve shared before, briefly, but it was a few years ago and it was in our old house, so I’m sure none of you remember it! It’s a special item so I’m more than happy to share it again, but styled in our current home. It’s a family heirloom given to me by my grandma: a vintage box.

This vintage box was a family heirloom. I love decorating with pieces that have a history!

Aside from cleaning it up with some Murphy’s Oil Soap, I haven’t done anything to it. This vintage box used to be full of antique toy cars that belonged to my dad and his brother when they were kids. There are still a few left in the box. (I’m pretty sure she put most of them somewhere else for safekeeping.) I decided to prominently display this box on the built-in bookshelves in our family room. So you’re getting  sneak peek of our family room makeover which I will be sharing in the next week or so!
