It’s the third day of “Pumpkin Week” and today I’m sharing a tutorial with tips for how to make your own paint dipped pumpkin. This was one of the designs I made for the workshop I hosted at West Elm recently. (You can see my gold leaf pumpkin tutorial here and my stenciled pumpkin tutorial will go live tomorrow.) Project Supplies:
- Pumpkin
- FolkArt® Multi-Surface Craft Paint in Aqua
- Painter’s Tape
- Rubbing Alcohol
- Paintbrush
This project is simple but adds a fun pop of color. Use any color you choose, but I really love the aqua and pumpkin orange together!
Paint Dipped Pumpkin Tutorial
Step 1
First, make sure your pumpkin is as clean as possible. After washing it off, clean it with some rubbing alcohol to remove any leftover residue that might prevent your paint from adhering to the surface.
Step 2
Next, tape around the center of your pumpkin using painter’s tape.
Step 3
Flip your pumpkin upside down and rest it on top of your roll of painter’s tape to hold it still while you paint.
Step 4
Then, paint a thin layer of paint and allow it to dry before adding a second coat.
Step 5
Peel your tape off while the paint is damp but not soaking wet.
That’s it! Simple enough, right?
Will you be painting pumpkins this year? Let me know!
